Three Supreme Court Justices Representing Three Nations Compare Constitutional Law Throughout World
In a riveting panel discussion, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Justice Morris J. Fish of the Supreme Court of Canada; Salim Joubran, Israeli Supreme Court justice, compared and contrast the differences in constitutional law in their respective countries at the American Bar Association Annual Meeting Aug. 3 in Chicago.
“International law is a part of our law: We are a nation among a world of nations,” Ginsburg said. “We can look to [other nations’] attempts to wrestle with problems we face, for the persuasive value of the decisions.”
The panel, sponsored by the Section of International Law, also included M. Cherif Bassiouni, emeritus professor of law at DePaul University in Chicago, and Irwin Cotler, former Canadian minister of justice.
