Statement of Wm. T. (Bill) Robinson III, President, American Bar Association Re: Death of Trayvon Martin

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 26, 2012 — The loss of a child is the greatest fear, and the worst agony for a family and a community.  The tremor of loss is amplified when life is taken by violence.  As we mourn the death of Trayvon Martin, we also recognize the need for the justice system to process this ordeal. Florida prosecutors and the U.S. Department of Justice have launched investigations into the deadly circumstances of Feb. 26.  A state task force also will examine the “Stand Your Ground” law at question.

As a father of two sons, I grieve this immitigable loss and offer my heartfelt sympathies to Trayvon’s family.
