Trends in Banking Industry Reform, Regulatory Enforcement Are Focus of ABA Conference in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 28, 2011 — Financial regulatory reform and trends in the banking industry will be the focus of the American Bar Association Business Law Section’s Banking Law Committee when it meets at the The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, D.C., on Nov. 3 – 5.
Mary Miller, assistant secretary for Financial Markets at the Department of Treasury, will be speaking at 9:30 a.m., Nov. 4. Later that day, Daniel K. Tarullo, Federal Reserve Board governor, will deliver the keynote luncheon address at 12:30 p.m. Tarullo’s tenure on the board began in January 2009, to fill an unexpired term ending Jan. 31, 2022.
The following programs are highlights of the meeting and feature experts from key posts within the government, including the Department of Treasury; U.S. Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee; U.S. House Financial Services Committee; Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; and the Federal Reserve Board.
“Enforcement Actions and Trends” – Hear about banking industry trends and recent actions relating to the mortgage industry, directors and officers.

“View From the Hill” – Panelists from the Federal Reserve Board; House Financial Services Committee; and Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee will discuss new financial services industry legislative proposals designed to address the financial crisis.

“Financial Regulatory Reform – Part III: Volcker Rule, Derivatives and Systemic Risk Factor” – Panelists will discuss the status of the regulatory implementation and actions taken with respect to the Volcker Rule, derivatives, and the new systemic risk M&A application factor under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act.
Nov. 4, 4:15 p.m., Salon II & III
“The Agency Counsels Discussion” – An annual highlight of the meeting, this interactive panel will review the most critical issues facing the banking agencies and report on recent interpretive letters, rulemakings and enforcement actions.
