Service to Medical-Legal Partnerships Honored
Volunteer attorneys, law firms and corporate law departments enhance the lives of individuals and families by developing, supporting and participating in medical-legal partnerships, an innovative way to provide legal services, which improves patients’ lives and builds healthier communities.
Medical-legal pro bono partners provide direct legal services to patients; support for systemic advocacy projects; site coordination and networking; and research and technical assistance projects unique to the medical-legal community.
To recognize the role pro bono partners play in expanding the value of medical-legal partnerships, the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service established the Outstanding Medical-Legal Partnership Pro Bono Advocacy Award.
The 2011 ABA award was presented at the Annual Medical-Legal Partnership Summit. Additional medical-legal partnership awards honored Medical-Legal Partnership Project (Hartford, Conn.); Legal Health (New York); Baker & Daniels LLP; and Mallory Curran, for her work as an individual advocate.
