Book Release: The Tech Contracts Handbook-Software Licenses and Technology Services Agreements for Lawyers and Businesspeople
CHICAGO, Oct. 5, 2010 – The American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law recently published The Tech Contracts Handbook: Software Licenses and Technology Services Agreements for Lawyers and Businesspeople, a comprehensive reference book and training manual on information technology contracts.
The book is authored by David W. Tollen, the founder of Tech Contracts Chalkboard, a company that provides training on negotiating and drafting technology agreements. In addition to his work at TCC, Tollen has a law practice in San Francisco that focuses on information technology and intellectual property transactions, including software licensing, as well as Internet and e-commerce law.
Written with both the novice and skilled practitioner in mind, The Tech Contracts Handbook provides practical and accessible guidance for both lawyers and businesspeople, including contract managers, procurement officers, corporate counsel, and anyone else responsible for contracts.
The book is designed as a clause-by-clause “how to” guide on software licenses and technology services agreements, covering the issues at stake and offering negotiation tips and sample contract language. Free of technical jargon, the book is written in plain, simple English – just like a good contract.
Topics covered include:
- Internet and e-commerce agreements;
- Open source software;
- Service level agreements;
- Nondisclosure agreements;
- Limitations of liability;
- Software escrow;
- Data security;
- Copyright licensing; and much more.
