Gun Microstamping Requirements
ADOPTED
RESOLVED, That the American Bar Association urges federal, state and territorial governments to enact laws requiring that all newly-manufactured semi-automatic pistols be fitted with microstamping technology which would ensure that when a firearm is fired, an alphanumeric and/or geometric code would be stamped on the cartridge casing by way of the firing pin, breech face or other internal surfaces of the firearm, that would enable law enforcement to identify the serial number of the pistol and hence the first known purchaser of a weapon used in a crime.

So when a firing pin wears off the micro stamp. then what? You folks need to learn before you adopt. A sheet of sandpaper and bingo, no microstamp. DUHHHHH!!!

Why in god’s name (substitute your on deity’s name or curse them all as is you persuasion here) would your organization take such an ill reasoned and scientifically questionable position on “Microstamping”. The technology has been shown to be easily defeated and could inadvertently place law abiding citizens in police investigative cross hairs should errant empty shell casings be used to seed the scene of a crime thereby resulting in the wasteful use of precious police resources. Government studies from California and other states have confirmed this and have suggested that it would be a less than effective tool for law enforcement. By adopting this policy, you also alienate many of your own colleagues who correctly understand the place gun ownership and privacy take within our constitutional and civil rights.

How can an organization that purportedly exists for the purposes of “Defending Liberty (and) Pursuing Justice” adopt such a ridiculous policy? Encouraging microstamping legislation when the technology is both seriously flawed and likely to add significant cost to firearms which will then be passed on to consumers works at cross purposes to your alleged values. I suppose your omission of “For All” in the tag line wasn’t accidental.
