The American Bar Association Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section is honoring Samuel P. King of Orlando, Fla. with the Pursuit of Justice Award, which recognizes lawyers and judges who have shown outstanding merit and who excel in providing access to justice for all.

The award will be presented to King during the ABA Midyear Meeting in Orlando at the TIPS dinner and reception at Disney’s Atlantic Dance Hall, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m.

King is a partner at Dellecker Wilson King McKenna & Ruffier, LLP in Orlando. His areas of practice include personal injury, wrongful death, automobile accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, defective products, premises liability, insurance company bad faith, business torts and negligent security. King is ‘AV’ Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been a board certified civil trial lawyer by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Certification for more than a decade.

In announcing the award, John Tarpley, TIPS chair said, “Our section is proud to honor King with the Pursuit of Justice award.  Not only has he dedicated much of his time to the legal profession, serving in a variety of leadership positions within a number of professional associations, but he is also active in his community and an extremely successful lawyer who has made a different by assuring access to justice. He is a prime example of the type of lawyer this award represents.”

King is a member of the Florida Bar where he served on the executive committee for the Trial Lawyers Section from 2004-2008 and serves on the Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee.  He was on the board of directors for the Florida Justice Association from 1994-1997 and is a member of the Products Liability Section of the American Association for Justice.  He was vice president of the Central Florida Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2009 and served as secretary in 2008.

King is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, a national and prestigious group of trial lawyers, limited only to those lawyers who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements.  King has also been recognized as one of Florida’s Legal Elite by Florida Trend and as a Florida Super Lawyer by Law & Politics (2007-2009).  In addition, King is a well known lecturer and has written and been published extensively.

His community work has been exemplary, with service on the Winter Park YMCA’s Board of Directors and as a participant in “Partners in Education” with Audubon Elementary School, Lakemont Elementary School, Glenridge Middle School and Winter Park High School.  He has been a soccer coach and Cub Scout leader for many years.

King earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 1982 from the University of Florida.  In 1985, he earned his Juris Doctor degree with honors from the Florida State University College of Law where he was a member of the trial competition team.  He also participated in the Association of Trial Lawyers of America National Student Trial Advocacy Competition and served as chief justice of the Student Honor Court.

The ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section unites plaintiff, defense, insurance, and corporate counsel to advance the civil justice system.
