Extreme Makeover: Diversity Edition

Diversity is experiencing a face-lift, in society, and more specifically in the legal profession.

Lawyers committed to broadening diversity outreach will answer the question, “ABA Diversity Summit: The Next Step?” 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, July 31, in the Hyatt Regency Chicago.  Program planners describe “the next step” as a quantum leap, one stretching from diversity of gender, race and ethnicity to encompassing concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered lawyers and lawyers with disabilities.

Leaders from all corners of the profession will unveil an agenda for diversity action, the product of a summit convened by ABA President H. Thomas Wells Jr. in June.

Stakeholders from the June summit will report on their findings, conclusions and recommendations.  Then Annual Meeting attendees will begin work to implement new ideas, clustering in small groups around discussion themes to expand on the suggestions or carry them in new directions.   All will reconvene for reports from each cluster to the entire group.
