Brother, Can You Spare a Job?
In July’s ABA Journal, statistics tell a bleak story about entry-level legal employment. Not only is on-campus recruiting down, but the offers extended by law firms are down, too. Adding to woes, demand for legal services in the last quarter of 2008 dropped precipitously by almost 7 percent from last year during the same time.
Helping to turn the tide, the Law Student Division will host its third annual career fair for law students, “Back to Basics,” on July 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chicago Marriott Michigan Avenue.
This year, about 20 organizations will be on hand to talk to nearly 600 law students and recent graduates. Among those participating in the career fair are government agencies, the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, and public interest and not-for-profit organizations. Students can connect with these possible employers and learn about jobs and internships.
Also on July 30, a session on resume review and career advice will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom I of the Marriott Chicago. Career services and recruitment professionals will be on hand with suggestions for making job search documents stand out and get noticed.
A special luncheon program on “Legal Employment – What You Can Do in This Economy,” is also set for July 30. The event takes place at noon with assistant deans for career services providing insider tips.
Visit the ABA Law Student Division for detailed program information.
