New Hampshire Lawyer Nominated to American Bar Association Board of Governors

CHICAGO, March 12, 2008 – Stephen L. Tober of Portsmouth, N.H., was nominated to serve as a member of the American Bar Association’s Board of Governors during the 2008 ABA Midyear Meeting in Los Angeles last month.  Tober’s nomination will be considered in August by the policy-making ABA House of Delegates when it meets at the 2008 ABA Annual Meeting in New York City. If elected, Tober will be one of 40 representatives who oversee the administration and management of the association.

Tober is a member of Tober Law Offices, P.A. and practices civil litigation, professional negligence and domestic relations. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Syracuse University in 1974.

Tober’s commitment to the ABA extends more than a decade. He has been an active member of the ABA House of Delegates, serving as the New Hampshire State Delegate since 1996. Tober was also the chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary. Notably, as chair, Tober testified before the United States Senate Judiciary concerning the nomination of the Honorable John G. Roberts to the Supreme Court as Chief Justice. Tober has served on several other ABA committees as well, including ones on credentials and admissions, technology and communications, and presidential appointments

Additionally, Tober serves as the Eastern Regional Chair Fellow for the American Bar Foundation, an independent, nonprofit national research institute committed to objective empirical research on law and legal institutions. As a Fellow of this distinguished program, Tober provides insightful analyses of the theory and functioning of law. Membership in The Fellows is limited to one-third of one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction.

Tober has been the recipient of several honors throughout his career.  He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, 2006-2008; New England Superlawyers, 2007-2008; Who’s Who in America; and Who’s Who in the World. Tober was also the recipient of the New Hampshire Bar Association President’s Distinguished Service Award in both 1986 and 1994.
