A Diverse Selection of Speakers to be Featured at ABA Annual Meeting
CHICAGO, Aug. 2, 2007—From Supreme Court justices to members of Congress to noted authors and actors, the American Bar Association Annual Meeting in San Francisco, Aug. 9-14, will feature many of the nation’s leading legal, industry and government professionals, including U.S. Supreme Court Justices Stephen G. Breyer and Anthony M. Kennedy.
Justice Breyer is slated to be the keynote speaker at the ABA Opening Assembly on Aug. 11 at 5:30 p.m., Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall, 201 Van Ness Avenue. Also, Mayor of San Francisco Gavin Newsom will make welcoming remarks. Earlier that day, Justice Breyer will be honored at a noon luncheon by the ABA Rule of Law Initiative for his extraordinary commitment to the promotion of the rule of law in developing areas of the world. The presentation of the award is to be held at the Moscone West Convention Center, Ballroom, 3rd floor.
A leading advocate for the advancement of the rule of law around the world, Justice Kennedy is to be awarded the ABA Medal, the Association’s highest honor, on Aug. 13 at 3 p.m. during the meeting of the policy-making 546-member ABA House of Delegates at the Moscone West Convention Center.
In addition, news conferences will be held by ABA President Karen J. Mathis and President Elect William H. Neukom. Mathis will touch on two of her presidential initiatives — Youth at Risk and the Rule of Law — on Aug. 10 at 9:30 a.m., San Francisco Marriott. Neukom, who will become ABA president at the adjournment of this meeting, will address his upcoming initiative, The World Justice Project, on Aug. 14 at 9 a.m., Moscone West Convention Center.
