Louisville Lawyer Paul Herrington is New Member of ABA Board of Governors

CHICAGO, Aug. 8, 2006 – E. Paul Herrington of Louisville, Ky., in-house counsel for Humana Inc., took office today for a three-year term as a member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association. His term began at the conclusion of the ABA Annual Meeting in Hawaii.

Herrington will hold the Section of Health Law seat on the board, which meets at least four times yearly to oversee administration and management of the association.

Herrington’s legal experience includes 24 years of in-house and private health law practice, with a special emphasis on insurance regulatory matters and litigation. Currently working as Kentucky insurance counsel/senior insurance counsel at Humana Inc., he’s been with the company since 1989. Prior to that, he practiced law with Barnett & Alagia, first as an associate, and later becoming a partner.

As a long-standing member of the ABA, Herrington has been a member of the House of Delegates since 1998. He was the founding chair of the 11,000-member of Health Law Section in 1996-1997, chaired the Health Insurance Committee of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section in 1993-1994, and chaired the Health Law Committee of the Young Lawyers Division in 1989-90.

Locally, Herrington has chaired the Kentucky Bar Association Law and Medicine Committee, and the Medical/Legal Committee of the Louisville Bar Association and is currently president of the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival.

Herrington received his Bachelor of Arts in English in 1977 from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. He went on to obtain his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Law School.
