ABA Task Force to Release Report on Presidential Signing Statements

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 20, 2006 – What are the implications of presidential signing statements for the constitutional doctrine of separation of powers and the interpretation of laws? Do presidential signing statements conflict with congressional intent or express statutory language? Has the role of presidential signing statements changed in recent years? The task force will release its findings and recommendations during a Newsmakers’ Breakfast at the National Press Club on July 24.

The Task Force recommendations will be considered by the Association’s policy-making House of Delegates at its Annual Meeting in August.
