New Orleans Lawyer Harry S. Hardin is New Member of ABA Board of Governors

CHICAGO, Aug. 9, 2005 – Harry Simms Hardin III of New Orleans, La., a senior partner at the law firm of Jones, Walker, Waechter, Poitevent, Carrere & Denegre, took office today for a three-year term as a member of the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association. His term began at the conclusion of the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.

As governor of the ABA’s 6th District, Hardin will represent Louisiana, Georgia and Tennessee. The board meets at least four times yearly to oversee administration and management of the association.

Hardin, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, has been practicing law at Jones Walker since 1971, concentrating in commercial business litigation.

Hardin has been active in the ABA for more than 20 years, serving as the Louisiana state delegate in the House of Delegates for nine years and as a member of the Section of Antitrust Law, the Section of Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law, the Section of Litigation and the Section of Law Practice Management. He also served on the Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary and the House of Delegates Technology and Communications Committee and Nominating Committee.

Hardin is an active member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, having served as president, chair of the Ethics 2000 Committee, secretary/treasurer, and editor of the Louisiana Bar Journal, among many other posts. He is also a member of the New Orleans Bar Association.

Outside of his bar work, Hardin has been active with the Louisiana Center for Law Related Education, the American Society of Hospital Attorneys, the Defense Research Institute, the International Association of Defense Counsel, and serves on the council of the Louisiana State Law Institute and several committees for the Louisiana Supreme Court. Hardin also serves on the Board of Directors for the American Judicature Society.

Hardin was awarded the Louisiana Bar Foundation President’s Award in 2001, the Louisiana State Bar Association President’s Award in 2004, and the CitiBusiness Leadership in Law Award earlier this year.

Hardin received his Juris Doctor from Tulane University and his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University.
